Along with constructivism, the theory of discovery learning, from Piaget, Bruner, and Papert, is a theory I utilize in my teaching. For students with special needs, discovery learning provides an adequate learning environment in the general education setting. I believe that when students discover and create knowledge for themselves, it makes the learning so much more meaningful. To differentiate my teaching, I find the learning style that will ensure my students are most successful and incorporate them into my lessons.

I give my students access to the information in more than one way, for example, if we are doing a lesson that is very verbal and interpersonal, I will also provide the information in a video for my students who are more visual learners.

My strong desire to help students with their academic, personal, and social needs make me a strong candidate as a school counselor. While completing my undergraduate degree in Early Childhood Program Administration I learned a great deal about myself. I have a passion for learning and want to share and express that love for learning with students. As an educator, there is always room for reflection and growth.

Being in this class has provided an opportunity for both. From my knowledge gained in this class I believe that I have become smarter and have learned how to implement different tool into my teaching as well as general life as a teacher. Of the topics discussed in this class, commitment to students, avoiding burnout and reflective practices had the biggest impact on my professional growth.
